The connection between the border regions
in Europe has become a significant stimulus for the development
of European cooperation, for European integration and for working
out programmes assisting the border regions in Europe.
In the period October 1999 - December 2000 ARM National Information
Center was created for cross-border cooperation in the frame of
LACE-Phare II/CBC Programme of the European Association of border
regions.
On 20 March, 2001 ARM signed an Agreement
with Border Region Delta-Rhodopi /Greece/ for creation of Euroregion
RHODOPI /Bulgaria-Greece/.
On 7 February 2002 an Agreement
for cooperation was signed between ARM and Association of
local communities and municipalities - Xanthi prefecture.
The Agreement includes assistance in the development and implementation
of mutually beneficial activities and projects in the sectors of
technical infrastructure; environment; culture; tourism; business,
etc.
Strategy:
The strategy aims at including the local authorities
and young people from the municipalities in both partner associations
/ARM & Border Region Delta-Rhodopi/ that will participate actively
in the cross-border cooperation.
The purpose is to create opportunities for closer cooperation in
the sphere of economical development, and also building real base
for working out and fulfilling common projects in economy, culture
and other priority fields that will contribute for the sustainable
development of border territories and increase the exchange between
the border population.
Expected results:
- Creation of data base of enterprises working in different branches
of economy;
- Creation of opportunities for SMEs to be included in international
catalogues and fairs by their products;
- Better coordination of the common policy for development;
- Preparing, working out and fulfilling of plans and programmes
in the spheres of cross-border cooperation incl. assistance for
finding finance resources necessary for the implementation;
- Initiating and realization of events directing to the development
of both organizations and their members concerning the cross-border
cooperation and European integration.
